Planning a wedding while considering pregnancy involves several health considerations to ensure the well-being of both the mother and baby. One critical aspect is ensuring immunity against rubella, a viral infection which gives symptoms similar to that of fever or common cold. If a pregnant woman contracts rubella during the first trimester, it can lead to severe complications such as miscarriage or congenital heart defects in the baby. Therefore, it is advisable to check for rubella immunity with a rubella IgG test and get vaccinated if necessary before planning the wedding. Additionally, it is important to start taking folic acid at least a month before getting pregnant. Folic acid is a water-soluble vitamin that helps prevent neural tube defects, which are serious abnormalities affecting the brain and spine. For those at risk of chickenpox, such as healthcare workers, getting vaccinated is also recommended. Although the risks associated with chickenpox are not as severe as rubella, vaccination can help avoid potential complications.
