Hadley Freeman’s book, “Good Girls, a story and study of anorexia”, is a page-turner. It gives a harrowing narrative of this bewildering and not well understood mental illness. The author tells about her own personal experiences with anorexia and gives a thorough kaleidoscope of inadequate and incomplete existing opinions, schools of thoughts, treatments and therapies.
Words - Dr Marcel De Roos
For her book Freeman interviewed doctors of various disciplines, therapists, researchers, girls and young women who are suffering today, she tracked down some of the women with whom she had been hospitalised thirty years before, their families, many medical and psychiatric research studies. She even went back to the last hospital where she had been treated. But she discovered that up to date nobody really understands anorexia.
