“I sometimes even forget that I live out of Sri Lanka. There are so many Sri Lankans living in Melbourne. In the hospital where I work, so many of us doctors are Sri Lankan, and most wards have many Sri Lankan nurses too. Even when I go shopping, I could always hear someone speaking in Sinhalese.”
How do you feel about being featured in Lanka Woman again after twenty years?
I am actually very excited. Twenty years ago, when I was first asked to be on the cover page of Lanka Woman I was just out of Medical School. Those days I used to travel to Avissawella Base Hospital where we were doing a pre-intern placement. I still remember seeing myself on the Lanka Woman hanging in front of most of the retail shops when I was traveling to the hospital and back.
