Caroline Jurie Crowned Mrs. World 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, after competing with 51 contenders

6 January 2020 11:41 am Words : Indika Madapatha Sellahewa & Mandulee Mendis Photos : Nirmala Dhananjaya & Jagath Dharmakeerthi Crowned Mrs. World 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, after competing with 51 contenders, she wants to show Sri Lanka’s young with troubled childhoods that there’s a world out there waiting for them, and help them battle their depression woes to come into their true potential, just as she did. “I’m so honoured to share my heritage and culture on the global stage,” were Caroline’s words in her facebook.com post. “I am representing my country and I carry the Sri Lanka Flag. This win is not just for me, but our Whole Nation”, said Caroline in a TV interview. This time, the First Runner Up was from Ireland and the Second Runner Up was from the US Virgin Islands. Caroline is the second Sri Lankan to win the title after 35 years. Rosy Senanayake was the winner in 1984 in Queensland, Australia, at the very first Mrs. World contest. Up to now United States has 6 beauty queens crowned, Sri Lanka, Peru and Russia have two crowned queens each. Now a national Icon, Caroline speaks of the hardships she went through to achieve this win. “People know me now, but when I left Sri Lanka from the airport, only my family and Mr. Chandimal Jayasinghe were there. I did’t have any sponsors, not even for my make-up or training. Yet, I brought this title for Sri Lanka. This is not mine alone to enjoy. This belongs to the whole of Sri Lanka. My only request is, there are others like me, who have talents, who can win, please support them”. I was a go-getter. I had to strive so hard to achieve this. No matter what others said, I believed in myself. My greatest support was my husband. He believed in me. Without him, I couldn't have done this. He encouraged me in every way. He took on my role most of the time to be mom and dad to our little baby while I was away for months, training for this pageant. But most times I take her with me even for shoots. I spend as much time with her as I can even with a busy schedule.
