How little do we know about Kathurumurunga! There are four different kinds of Kathurumurunga plants and the four types bear flowers of the four colours red, yellow, white and blue. Only the types with red and white flowers are edible. Only the type with white flowers are used for medicinal purposes.

Why is it called ‘Agasthi’

We have heard the word ‘Agasthi’ used to refer to Kathurumurunga, in Ayurvedic medicine. There are two reasons for this. One is because it takes the shape of the position of Agasthi constellation in the sky and the other is because of the legend of Agasthi who looked younger than his actual age.
