There is hardly anyone visiting Sri Lanka, be it local or foreign, who does not make time to visit the Barefoot showroom down Galle Road. For that matter, there are very few in Colombo or the suburbs, who have not availed themselves of at least one item of Barefoot products.
Barefoot has become an icon in fashionable, durable and comfortable clothing and household linen designed by Barbara Sansoni who is the Founder and Chief Designer of Barefoot Pvt. Ltd. It is an enterprise which was started by working with Sri Lankan rural women teaching them skills to develop their individual strengths to retain their independence from being exploited and to encourage them to make the best quality, hand-woven cloth in creative designs. The name “Barefoot” represents what is spontaneous and in touch with the earth.
“Barefoot” and its creator Barbara Sansoni are bound together for all times. One cannot talk about Barefoot without talking about Barbara, since she breathed life into the core of what is Barefoot – a legacy of durable, comfortable, handloom products in vivid hues that were first born in Barbara’s artistic mind and later transferred to the loom to bring to life with the help of hand-dyed yarn.
