It was quite interesting to see a group of students accompanied by two parents interviewing some of the shoppers with regard to the importance of recycling and its processes in the Sharjah City Center in the UAE. These were students from Grade 7 from the Delhi Private School in Sharjah. It was good to see these enthusiastic girls taking the trouble to explain the threat to society by the waste disposed and the action that could be taken in order to reduce the carbon print we leave behind.
Their project is aimed to optimize and personalize composting which is an important element in the recycling process in the eco system and considered as black gold.
The team consisted of Prerana Pai, Rhea Srivastav, Kanishka Dangi, Akanksha Mathur, Hiya Vaishnav, Yashita Kapoor, Niharika Venkatesh, Vyshnavi Joy, Jesvia Varghese and Abeeshna Krishnakutty.
“I Compost Bin” takes the shape of a raffle draw drum which can be used at villas, apartment balconies or even the kitchen which will be utilized to dispose different materials. The advantages of this eco friendly bin is that it is compact, light weight, can be easily moved around, there will be no stench and will be quite effective with the other additional features they wish to develop in time.
Making students and even parents aware of the importance of not just clearing clutter but carrying it out with lots of responsibility by making sure that the purpose is two fold is quite noteworthy. We wish these girls all the best with the project.
