‘Golden Gleam 2014’, the annual dinner dance organised by the Old Boys’ Union of St. Peter’s College Colombo 4 was held at the Grand Ballroom of Waters Edge on Saturday 9th August. The dance was a fun filled event with this year’s theme of ‘Petes in the Forest’ very colourfully expressed in the ambience and décor for the event.
Popular bands The Gypsies and Misty entertained the crowd together with host Danu and ensured that more than five hundred guests present were entertained till morning. A host of gifts including airline tickets, weekend getaways and valuable prizes were offered to winners of competitions.
Guests were treated to cocktails in the foyer while they waited for their photographs to be taken before the dance commenced. A special rendition of the College Anthem by Old Peterite musicians in Sri Lanka and overseas was a highlight at the beginning of the event. A copy of the CD was officially handed over to Rev. Fr. Trevor Martin, Rector. This was followed by the welcome address by Mr. Ashley Fonseka, Chairman of the organising committee.
A video depicting some members of the organising committee as characters of popular songs proved to be a hit among those gathered. Competitions for dancing the Jive and the Baila enthused the dancers as well as the onlookers and the winners walked home with great prizes for their efforts. The table draw, entrance ticket draw and the raffle ticket draw rewarded those who had luck coming their way.
A very successful ‘Golden Gleam 2014’ was concluded with breakfast.
