WORLD ELDERS DAY 1ST OCTOBER 2024 Elders Are A Font Of capabilites

The day was  designated by the UN General Assembly on the 14th December 1990. The day was set aside to recognize the contributions they have made and to examine issues that affect their lives. The theme specified for 2024 has been posted on-line as “Spotlight On Older Persons In Emergencies “ to highlight the importance of protecting and supporting the older persons in a 
crisis situation.

According to the WHO statistics the number of people over 80 or older is growing faster than the number of people aged 65 and above, and rising. Also , it highlights the fact that women tend to live longer than men and thus comprise the majority of the older group around the globe. Older persons can still live a full life by being active community members, caring of others, being creative, being active consumers, taking care of grandkids, contributing skills, experience and expertise, volunteering, taking community leadership roles, and in many other ways.
