We are our worst enemies. Great at preaching with no practise. Procrastination is our middle name when it comes to visiting the medical professionals as we prefer shrugging off the odd nagging pain and discomfort in the body/mind, gulping down cocktails of painkillers until one day we may lie unconscious on the kitchen floor or dead by the time we are found. At our funeral people mingling around may nod helplessly saying “…..we didn’t know she was suffering from …”oh well, nobody will ever know. Sri Lankan women are like that.
Words : Shanthi Wijesinghe
Mothers are said to be made of steel. They can forsake many needs in the face of their family’s wants. For as long as the year dot, Mothers have sacrificed themselves for the welfare of the family. I strongly feel it is time we change our stance by placing self-first at least in some areas. Nicola Felthman relates to the sacrifices of mothers not only because she is one herself, but because she’s a qualified professional in psychology specializing in Developmental Psychopathology from the University of Reading UK. Her work included a stint as an Early Childhood Interventionist at Coyne & Associates Education Corporation, USA.
Her resume is a study. Sri Lanka is extremely fortunate to have Nicola as a professional in ABA and related issues especially autism. Suffice to say she delivers the subject with in-depth professionalism. Her petite form is in contrast of her fierce love for the subject. She will not mince her words.
