Back in the day, the Lanka Woman was a household paper that had an island wide reader base. Its contents focused on keeping women occupied with recipes to try at home, health tips, ideas for gardening and many others. Today, this paper has evolved in to a magazine with more content for the female reader base. Three lady writers, Therese Motha, Dr. (Mrs) Ranjini Gopallawa and Beryl Gunasekara have written to the paper for over 10 years. We sat down to have a chat with them as they recalled the good old days while also expressing their views on how times have changed.
Therese Motha
Therese Motha is no stranger to all cooking fans. Her recipes are magic in the kitchen and she has contributed her valuable expertise for 14 and a half years. Today she writes to the Daily Mirror and the Women At Work magazine. This is what she had to say about her career thus far.
Dr.Ranjani Gopallawa
Dr. (Mrs) Ranjani Gopallawa has been another contributing writer for over 10 years. Having been a general practitioner for 55 years, Dr. Gopallawa educated her readers on health-related issues. One interesting fact however was that she wrote her column under the pseudonym ‘Pam Wright’. We asked why she wrote it under a pseudonym and about her writing career.
Beryl Gunasekara
Beryl Gunasekara is another household name when it comes to cookery. Having published her recent book titled ‘Feast of Flavours’, she has contributed to the Lanka Woman paper for over 17 years. Speaking to us, she recalled her memories as follows.
