The superb beach, abundantly fresh seafood and active nightlife has taken Unawatuna to the universe. Then again, being situated in Galle itself, is an advantage as Galle is one of our most visited heritage cities with a large international community making it their home. Taking a stroll in Unawatuna beach road, I was amazed at the many number of trinket shops, shops selling summer beach clothes and knick knacks, small and affordable restaurants offering everything from a traditional Italian cheesy pasta to authentic Sri Lankan menus, all at a reasonable price. And tourists walked the street so relaxed as if they’ve been here all their lives. I’m pretty sure that for most of them, this is not their first visit to Unawatuna.
