This is Mirissa Harbour where hundreds of colourful fishing boats anchor and sell the night’s catch of fresh fish from the Indian Ocean, at the Fish Market to wholesale and individual buyers each morning.
Situated in the heart of Mirissa town, a little fishing village in the south coast of Sri Lanka, Mirissa Harbour lies on the Bay of Weligama in the Matara District, Mirissa came in to the limelight some years ago, with the tourists discovering this little gem where the sea is ideal for swimming and surfing and the only place for spotting Blue Whales in the island.
