The Tower Of London

11 October 2018 10:42 am Words : Lakmini Wijemanne Officially, it is Her Majesty’s Royal Palace and Fortress….over years in history, the Tower of London has served as many functions as can imagine – the armory,  a treasury , a menagerie, the Royal Mint, a Public Record’s office, and the home to the Crown Jewels of England. But it is better known for its most famous persona – as a prison for many important prisoners. Some of the prisoners were beheaded on the Tower’s premises, some were tortured there, some perished within its walls and a few of them managed to find freedom. The Tower of London (TOL) is one of London’s most historic landmarks and a “must see”  in London, if you happen to visit, for the history that is stored within its walls.
