Kindness and Love By Dominican Family

8 July 2020 12:56 pm As said in Samuel 2:6 “And now may the lord show kindness and truth to you. I also will repay you this kindness, because you have.” There is nothing more human than showing one's kindness to another human being, an act of charity goes a long way. The lay Dominicans of St Catharine of Siena of Kandy are no strangers to these acts of kindness and charity as they embarked on one of the largest Heath and SpiritualCamps, they have conducted upon the request of the Parish Priest[ Rev.Fr.Arosh Priyanga] of Our lady of Good Voyage Church Kalpitiya. Upon the request of the parish priest the lay Dominicans completed a pilot visit to site. The team along with their spiritual directress Rev.Sr.Nisanthi Jayakody Op designed a camp fulfilling the needs of the people of Uchchimunai and Kalpitiya. After months of planning the team embarked early March 2020 to execute the program upon the blessing of the Bishop of Chilaw his lordship Rt.Rev.Dr. Valence Mendis. The Spiritual camp was directed by Rev.Sr. Nisanthi Jayakody Op and key personnel which included Rev.Fr. Suseinathen(National Director Liturgy) ,Rev.Fr. Ashanka Melroy Op as well as sisters from the Apostolic Carmel Convent and Daughters of Our Lady of the Eucharist Convent along with the Dominican sisters of Malta. The medical camp was led by Dr. Diana Gunawardena (President of Lay Dominican of St Catherin Of Siena Kandy) who was supported by a Renal team from the National Hospital Kandy , a Pharmacy comprising of multiple sponsors from drug companies, and a Dental mobile Unit provided by the University of Peradeniya faculty of Dental sciences as well as a Dental staff provided by Dr.Dianas’ International Center for Dental Tourism as well as a medical team consisting of volunteering doctors Dr. Mrs. A.D.S. Seapali, Dr. Mrs. Nilanthi Karunarathne from the Lady Ridgeway Hospital as well as Dr. Mrs. Enoka Herath from the National Hospital Colombo. To meet the needs of the people of both Kalpitiya parish as well as the people of Uchchimunai the camp was divided into two separate days with day one been set for the families of the fishing islands of Uchchimunai and day two been set for the 1000 families of Kalpitiya Parish.
